Bishop Jaro Diaz
Bishop Jaro Diaz worked for a car repair shop fixing car. He would arise early every morning and ride his bicycle to the shop where he would fix car radiators. In order to attend the Andes-ECH micro enterprise training sessions, he arranged to have a friend complete the work each day. He was an enthusiastic student and became something of a spiritual leader to the other students. At one point during the course, as he was creating a business plan, he thoughtfully considered his personal, family and business goals and then wrote them on paper. With this list in front of him, he knelt next to his bed in prayer. He arose to make changes, then repeated the process several times before he was comfortable with his plan. His business plan detailed hew he would start his own car radiator repair shop.
Many time his employer required him to work on Sunday and other nights of the week when he needed to attend and preside over ward meetings (i.e. ward council, priesthood executive committee and others.). He was serving as bishop and knew he couldn’t not work in this way and continue to serve and magnify his calling. After discussing the situation with his wife, they decided he should start his own business.
Now, thanks to the support of Eagle Condor Humanitarian Foundation, he is working in his own radiator repair shop. Sometimes he has clients who come to his shop in the afternoon and ask him to fix their car radiator immediately so they can use them the next morning. In these cases, Bishop Diaz first goes to his church meetings and interviews and then he returns to his shop and fixes the radiators all night long. In this way, Jaro Diaz can fulfill his responsibilities as bishop as well as entrepreneur.
